Governor M. Jodi Rell has appointed Michael J. Taylor of Stamford as Harbor Master for the harbors and navigable waterways of Stamford. Taylor will be responsible for monitoring the harbors of Stamford, one of the oldest and most historic communities on Long Island Sound. He will also assist the Stamford Harbor Management Commission in the implementation of its harbor management plan.

Taylor is the director of facilities for Stamford-based Daymon Worldwide Inc. A former U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain, he is a certified open water diver and an avid classic boat and yacht restorer. He is a graduate of Fordham University.

“Mike clearly understands the importance of competent stewardship for our natural resources and has a keen insight of the regulations that govern the region’s waterways,” Governor Rell said. “Stamford’s harbors are some of the most important centers of recreational boating in western Long Island Sound, and I know Mike is up to the task of keeping them safe. I thank him for his willingness to serve the state.”

Taylor will serve as Harbor Master for a term ending June 30, 2013, or until a successor is appointed.
