Mayor Malloy announces an Award for Environmental Awareness

Stamford, Connecticut — Tuesday, July 8, 2008 — Mayor Dannel P. Malloy announced today a mayoral award program to honor and recognize a local company that demonstrates a willingness to save energy, protect our environment and support its employees through transportation and commuter focused intiatives.

Exemplary companies will be eligible for recognition based on one or more of the following criteria:

- Encouraging use of public transportation.

- Organizing car and/or van pools.

- Encouraging employees to walk or bike to work,

- Subsidizing employee public transportation and mass transit commutation costs. Establishing creative solutions to relieving traffic congestion and pollution.

- Making an effort to purchase and use the lowest emission vehicle or equipment possible (if applicable to their industry), such as hybrids, alternative fuels or high fuel efficiency vehicles.

- Displaying a long term and sustained commitment to addressing environmental and energy issues in the City of Stamford.

The award will be given on an ongoing basis. Nominations are being accepted in the Mayor's Office. A committee comprised of representatives from the community wide Sustainable Stamford Task Force will assist the Mayor in choosing award winners.
