The criteria for selection of one of Stamford’s most prestigious Community service/volunteer awards is: “A person who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, has demonstrated a belief in interfaith harmony, possesses the highest standards of responsibility in civic life, has helped in the promotion of projects for the public welfare, and who has personally worked with distinction to benefit Stamford on a community-wide basis”.

Over 550 guests attended the dinner honoring Juanita James, the 2009 City of Stamford Citizen of the Year, last May.

This year’s very distinguished selection committee consists of:
June Rosenthal – Chairperson, Principal of Juner Properties - The 2007 award recipient.

Richard Taber – CEO – First County Bank – The 2008 award recipient.
Juanita James - Chief Marketing & Communications Officer Pitney Bowes –
The 2009 award recipient John J. DiMenna Jr. – President, Seaboard Properties Bob Kennedy – Former Sports Editor, Stamford Advocate
Kurt Zimbler – Commander, JWV Post 142, and Past Commander Connecticut JWV.

This prestigious award and the annual award dinner have been sponsored, on behalf of the City of Stamford, by Post 142, Jewish War Veterans of the United States since the award’s inception in 1945.
