Norwalk Garden Club underwrites garden at STAR center in Norwalk

Visitors to STAR, Inc. Lighting the Way in Norwalk will now see beautiful new shrubs, mulch and flowers in the front of the building– thanks to a donation from Norwalk Garden Club. The donated plants are also being enjoyed by STAR clients as part of the recreational Garden Club program for adults with developmental disabilities who are interested in gardening.

Sally D’Amato, president of Norwalk Garden Club, said: “We’re pleased to support STAR by providing plants that enhance the grounds and also can be enjoyed by clients and families who visit the facility. That is part of our mission; to encourage civic planting.”

STAR Client Catherine Foster enjoys her work with the STAR Garden Club. Catherine says, “I like gardening. It’s fun and it’s something I used to do when I was little. The plants look pretty.”

The Norwalk Garden Club is an organization for those who care about plants and their relationship to the environment. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the love and knowledge of gardening and flower arranging, to aid in the protection of native plants, and to encourage civic planting.

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. They create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. They inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.
