Seven business and community leaders elected to the Board of Trustees at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum

Seven new trustees, including Lynne H. Byington, Michael F. DiScala, Herbert A. Grant, Marianne Howatson, Gail-Ingis Claus, Maury Rose and Susan Sweitzer joined the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum’s Board this month.

“We are thrilled to have such outstanding business and community leaders join the Lockwood-Mathews Board of Trustees,” said Joe Passero, Chairman of the Board’s Nominating Committee. “As a National Historic Landmark and institution dedicated to the community, I believe this museum will be well-served by each of these committed and highly accomplished board members.”
Michael F. DiScala, is President and Chief Executive Officer of M.F. DiScala & Company, Inc., Real Estate Investment Bankers, headquartered in Norwalk.

DiScala & Company was established in 1923 and is a privately held, self-administered, real estate organization engaged in the business of acquiring, developing, managing and leasing warehouse, distribution facilities and commercial properties throughout Connecticut and in other significant U.S. markets. The portfolio of M.F. DiScala & Company includes over 50 properties in 9 states and 23 cities.

DiScala, a longtime Norwalk resident, has been a past president of the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. A strong believer in charitable endeavors and giving back to the community, he is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Norwalk YMCA and has been a trustee of the Fairfield County Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a trustee of the American Cancer Society in addition to donating his office and warehouse space to Habitat for Humanity and to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Marianne Howatson is the CEO and Publication Director of Dulce Domum, LLC which publishes Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, Hamptons Cottages & Gardens and Westchester Cottages & Gardens magazines.

Prior to purchasing the Cottages & Gardens titles, Ms. Howatson had a successful career in the media business.
During the internet boom she was a founding member of ScreamingMedia/Pinnacor (acquired by MarketWatch in 2005) which streamed content solutions and syndication services to Fortune 1000 companies, portals and wireless networks in seven languages.

As Group Publisher at Gruner+Jahr USA, a division of Bertelsmann, she oversaw the growth and strategic positioning of Parents, YM, Expecting, Baby Care and the Ser Padres network of Spanish language publications.

Prior to that, Ms. Howatson was Publisher of some of the country’s finest magazines including Travel and Leisure Magazine and Self Magazine where she was the first female publisher at both Conde Nast and American Express Publishing. During her tenure at Self Magazine she reinforced its position as the authority on women’s health and wellness by launching and directing Self magazine’s New Diversity series of studies.
Building on Evelyn Lauder’s guest editorship of Self Magazine’s October 1990 issue on breast cancer, Ms. Howatson’s team established October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This was a multi-level program involving retailers and manufacturers and subsequently included the pink ribbon which became the iconic symbol for breast cancer awareness. Ms. Howatson lives in Wilton, CT.

After graduating from the RCA Institute, N.Y. in 1970 and the RCA Television Studio School, N.Y. in 1972, Maury Rose worked as a broadcasting engineer for T.V. studios, filming beauty pageants on location and traveling throughout the U.S. A renowned inventor and product developer holding many patents and trademarks, Mr. Rose opened his own lighting, audio and design firm in the late seventies, and designed and built some of the most famous discos and nightclubs throughout the five boroughs.
An avid antique collector, Mr. Rose turned his passion into a full-time business and opened Maury Rose Antiques in New York and Greenwich, CT, importing and exporting antiques all over the world. He is currently working on a patented, ground-breaking invention of search and rescue for earthquakes and other natural disasters. He currently resides in Old Greenwich, CT.
Norwalk resident Herbert A. Grant is the President and CEO of DMG and Associates, LLC, an entertainment enterprise company that includes artist management, music festivals, show productions and booking agency functions for jazz and Latin jazz musicians, blues, funk and pop artists and vocalists.

DMG and Associates, LLC, is a one stop full service entertainment enterprise company for up and coming jazz artists, vocalists, writers and composers. The components of the company include an independent record label known as “Nomad Records”. the producers of the annual Norwalk Jazz Festival as well as a music educational scholarship program known as: NJF Scholarship Foundation, Corp.

Mr. Grant is also the chief personal business manager and booking agent for Performing Artist. The company provides financial accounting data for services provided by Independent music performers who perform with DMG and SINISTERENVY band, and legal assistance, public relations, marketing, and computer graphic design services for all contracted clients.

Susan Sweitzer is a graduate of Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY with a degree in Political Science/Economics and a post-graduate degree in Landscape Architecture from City College of New York.
Ms. Sweitzer is currently Senior Project Manager for the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency where she has worked for over 25 years in the areas of urban redevelopment, public improvement design, park design and senior project management. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute District Council and the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council, and is on the Board of Directors of the New Canaan Preservation Alliance and the New Canaan Conservation Commission. Ms. Sweitzer resides in New Canaan, CT.

Lynne H. Byington has over twenty-five years of banking experience in the local Fairfield County area. She is currently Assistant Vice President at Fairfield County Bank, an institution she joined in 2003. Ms. Byington attended NCC and received graduate degrees from the American Institute of Banking, (1986); the Norwalk Leadership Institute, (2003); and the Connecticut School of Finance Management, (2009).
Ms. Byington is passionate about her volunteer work with Junior Achievement and teaching about her industry in the Norwalk Public School system. She is also a mentor in the Norwalk Public School Mentor Program, a member of the Board of Directors for the Norwalk Senior Center serving on the Public Relations Committee.

She is a Board member of the Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance Center and the Norwalk Police Athletic League and an Ambassador with the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce. She has also been a coach for several seasons for the Norwalk Junior Soccer Association. Byington resides in Norwalk with her husband James, a retired Norwalk Police Officer.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Gail Ingis-Claus has a degree in interior design and studied architecture and design criticism. An accomplished artist and illustrator, Ms. Ingis-Claus has been involved in design, architecture, teaching, and art for more than 35 years. Her career has spanned all aspects of design and art with an emphasis in interior design.

She is the founder of the nationally accredited Interior Design Institute, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and a professor of history of architecture and design. She has also taught at the New York School of Interior Design, Kean College, Union, NJ, Briarcliff Manor, Tarrytown, NY, the University of New Haven, University of Bridgeport, and Fairfield University. Currently, she serves as the Art Director of the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum.

Ms. Ingis-Claus incorporates her skills of drawing and painting into her illustrative work, fine art and portraits. Her sought-after, award-winning work is represented in private collections, galleries, museums and corporations in the U.S. and abroad including the Fairfield Arts Council, Lyme Association, Madison Art Society, Guilford Art League, Barnes & Noble, the permanent collections of the University of New Haven, and the United States Professional Tennis Association. Her work is represented by Agora Gallery SoHo on-line. Ingis-Claus resides in Fairfield, CT.
