Stamford Hospital nurses recognized with award

Ten Stamford Hospital nurses have been awarded the Nightingale Award for Nursing Excellence, Connecticut's largest state-wide nursing recognition program. The nurses were recently recognized for the achievement during the Eighth Annual Nightingale Gala at Stamford’s Italian Center.

Award recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a panel of nursing professionals. Honorees are recognized for making a significant impact on patient care; going “beyond the call of duty”; demonstrating excellence in the field and/or a commitment to the community; or for outstanding life-long achievement.

“Nurses are central to offering patient-focused care in a healing environment,” said Kathy Livolsi, Stamford Hospital’s Chief Interim Nursing Officer. “Because of our focus on compassionate, personalized care, it comes as no surprise that 10 of our nurses have received the Nightingale Award this year. They are truly representative of the best the nursing field has to offer.”

Nurses who were honored this year include:

· Sarah Sanders, RN, Nursing Administration; of Stamford

· Linda Myder, RN, PCCN, Cardiology; of Greenwich

· Elizabeth McKinlay, BSN, Risk Management; of Congers, N.Y.

· Lorna McKeithan-Pausig, LPN, General Surgery; of Stamford

· Liz Carrena, RN,C, BSN, Nursing Administration; Trumbull

· Igor Garrido, RN, Ortho/Neuro; Norwalk

· Susan Macari, RN, Radiology Department at Tully Health Center; of Stamford

· Heidi Nicholas-Baldacci, RN, BSN, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; of Darien

· Adriennne Salerno-Stepkoski, RN, Psychiatry; of Norwalk

· Roann Paligutan, RN, Intermediate Care; of Shelton

The Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing program was originally developed by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut (VNA/SCC) as a collaborative effort to celebrate outstanding nurses and elevate the nursing profession. The goals of the program are to encourage retention, inspire future nurses, focus public attention and encourage licensed nurses who currently work outside health care to return to practice.
