Stamford student wins NFTE Fairchester's Fairfield County Business Plan Competition

Jesse Chianelli, a Stamford High School student won NFTE Fairchester's Fairfield County Business Plan Competition and received a $1,500 first place prize award from The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). As a budding entrepreneur, Chianelli discovered that video gamers do not often have a place to go to compete with a variety of equipment and games in a fun atmosphere. He created "Game Fix," a modern day arcade where gamers of all ages can compete in tournaments and play individually on gaming systems for a monthly fee of $10.

As part of NFTE's curriculum, students in each class learn business concepts, practice using skills including negotiation and pricing, and create business plans for their own businesses. Classroom competitions were held in May and selected students presented their business plans to a group of senior business executives who determined the winners from each classroom. Classroom winners were welcomed to participate in the countywide competition on May 28.

The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (www.nfte.com) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide entrepreneurship education programs to young people from low-income communities. The NFTE Fairchester program office was launched in 1999 in order to provide entrepreneurship training to the low-income young people of Westchester and Fairfield Counties.
