Thousands are still without power in Fairfield County

In the aftermath of the powerful storm this weekend, thousands of residents of Connecticut, primarily in the Fairfield County area, are still without power.

An estimated a little more than 54,000 customers were still waiting for electricity to be brought back to their homes as of 10:05 a.m. Monday morning, according to the Storm Center report on the Connecticut Light and Power web site.

Crews from Massachussets, New Hampshire, Vermont and as far as Ohio and Canada were on their way to our area Sunday night to help with the local repair units that were overwhelmed from the widespread damage caused by the storm.

Heavy storm hit the Tri-state area Saturday night and early Sunday morning, severely damaging power lines, homes, businesses, and other property in Fairfield County. Stamford, Norwalk, Darien and Greenwich recorded fallen trees and debris from the heavy winds.

The storm affected a wide area of the Northeast part of the United States, including Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and according to media reports, at least five people died as a result from the inclement weather, including two in our area.

Weather reports showed gusts of up to 70 mph.
