The Blues Man returneth! After selling-out The Playhouse in 2007, Johnny Winter, who keeps Texas blues- rock alive with his signature pinky slide and his thunderous Gibson Firebird, is coming back to The Ridgefield Playhouse-this time on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m., bringing 40 years of refined musicality and raw talent to The Playhouse stage for another unforgettable evening. Special guest is up and coming blues artist Samuel James.
One time, back in 1962, Johnny Winter and his brother went to see the blues great B.B. King at a Beaumont, Texas club called the Raven. The only whites in the crowd, they no doubt stood out. But Johnny already had his chops down and wanted to play with the revered B.B. "I was about 17," Johnny remembers, "and B.B. didn't want to let me on stage at first. He asked me for a union card, and I had one. He finally gave me his guitar and let me play. I got a standing ovation, and he took his guitar back!" Johnny Winter will use his own guitar on stage in Ridgefield.
