Founded by Emperor Maximilian I in 1498, the Vienna Boys Choir began as six boys among the court’s musicians. Today approximately 100 members make up four touring choirs whose voices reach almost half a million people as they perform around 300 concerts annually. The choir performs everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music and in 2002 even released their first ever pop album.
More recently the Vienna Boys Choir was the subject of Curt Faudon’s 2009 documentary Silk Road. The film shows the choir’s travels through Korea, Japan, Canada and the U.S. while the soundtrack includes unexpected highlights from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China and Mongolia.
