CT Alliance for Music announces competition winners
Connecticut Alliance for Music announces the winners of the 2011 Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition held recently at Westport Town Hall. The Westport Arts Center and WSHU supported this annual event, traditionally bringing together young musicians from around the world, many of whom have garnered top prizes in competitions and performed with leading orchestras and chamber groups worldwide.

Gospel music concert features Vaneese Thomas

Treetops CMS showcase Arriaga Competition winners' concert
The TREETOPS CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY continues its fall concert season in Stamford presenting the Lysander Piano Trio and the Harmonium Saxophone Quartet, joint 1st prize winners at the 2011 Arriaga Competition. This is a great opportunity to hear violinist Itamar Zorman, who after winning at the Arriaga Competition in Stamford, went on to winning the top prize at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia. The first half of the concert at Treetops CMS will feature the Harmonium Quartet performing Piazzolla’s Four For Tango, Noda’s Les Oiseaux, Donatoni’s Rasch, Albright’s Selections from Fantasy Etudes and a world première by Butera; while the second half of the program will feature the Lysander Trio performing Dvorak’s Piano Trio in F Minor, Op. 65.

Treetops CMS opens new season with Chopin
A last minute cancellation due to illness by the Kwon sisters will bring pianist Benjamin Hochman back to the Treetops Chamber Music Society for its season opening concert on September 25, in Stamford. Since his first appearance at Treetops, Hochman has concertized with some of the top orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony, and this year won the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Local ragtime jazz quartet to perform in Darien
“They all played ragtime!” says Lew Green, a 35-year resident of Darien describing the music scene a century ago.
