As the nation paused and remembered on Sunday, September 11th, the City of Hartford was proud to host an inspirational event. Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and the Hartford Fire Department were honored guests at the 10th anniversary ceremony commemorating the day that changed America.
The Middlesex Hospital and the Bushnell Theater along with the University Glee Club of New Haven and the St. Patrick’s Pipe Band honored firefighters, police officers, and military personnel for their dedication and commitment to serving their communities.
Featured speakers included the Mayor Segarra and the President, CEO of Middlesex Hospital Vincent G. Capese, Jr. There were emotionally moving stories and poems were read by masters of ceremonies, Jim Masters of CPTV and Attorney Jessica Schneider, formally from WFSB-TV.
Other tributes included first hand reflections from the Rev. James Reemts, the playing of TAPS and Amazing Grace in addition to the ringing of the bell, remembering the 343 firefighters who died that day and the 2977 innocent civilian lives.
Later that night, Members of the Hartford Fire Department, their Honor Guard Society along with the Connecticut Statewide Honor Guard stood before 10,400 patrons at the Comcast Theater to receive a donation check in the amount of $5,500 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The promoter of the concert, Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival and tour headliners Avenged Sevenfold teamed with The Rock 106.9 WCCC, to make the donation. They felt it was only right to remember firefighters and police officers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice, by helping those that help the families in their time of need.
