Stamford, CT - Have You Ever Been Hungry? Tens of thousands of our neighbors are facing the holiday season this year without any food on their tables. The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County announcing an emergency community challenge Wednesday. There are record numbers of those in need of food this Thanksgiving. Immediate action must be taken in order to fulfill the needs of 10,000 requests for turkeys from the agencies and non-profit organizations that feed the hungry in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton. Last week, the Food Bank had only 1,000 turkeys in their freezer.
As the only food bank that serves our area, The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County’s Executive Director, Kate Lombardo, decided to first reach out to the business community that lends her support throughout the year. “The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County is incredibly fortunate that we have strong support in our community. Year round we know we can always count on certain businesses to step up and generously find creative ways to help us fulfill the needs of those who otherwise might go hungry. When I realized that we had an unexpected snowstorm, a poor economic atmosphere, increased requests and little time left, I turned to one of our strongest supporters NAGI Jewelers. The Osta family creates events and fundraisers throughout the year for us and we know if we need help they will always be there for us.”

In addition, NAGI Jewelers will be collecting cash donations, food and turkeys at their store located at 828 High Ridge Road in Stamford for The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County throughout the holiday season. Each person making a donation will receive a chance to win a very special holiday prize.
The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County is also in need of basic food supplies. Their pantry is not even half full. A list of those items most needed is attached.
