HARTFORD, CT - Earlied this week, Attorney General George Jepsen advised Connecticut consumers who own Saab motor vehicles, or are considering purchasing one, to be cautious about warranties following Saab’s bankruptcy filing in Sweden on Monday, Dec. 19.

“While the dynamic situation of Saab’s bankruptcy filing unfolds, I am urging all Connecticut consumers to remain alert to the possible dangers that can come with purchasing a Saab vehicle at this time.

“As Saab has publicly stated, they have suspended all warranty coverage indefinitely on all new Saab vehicles sold or leased and have suspended the processing and payment of warranty claims.” Attorney General Jepsen said.

In a statement on its website, General Motors said “in the event Saab cannot or will not fulfill its obligations to administer the warranty programs with its U.S. and Canadian dealers through Saab Cars North America or otherwise, GM will take necessary steps to ensure that remaining warranty obligations on Saab vehicles marketed by GM in the United States and Canada will be honored.” However, GM’s commitment extends only to Saab vehicles sold before February 2010.

Jepsen advised “all consumers who are having warranty work performed, or have outstanding reimbursements, should keep accurate recording of all expenses and save all receipts.

“My office will continue to monitor the situation,” he said.
