BERLIN, CT - Looking for a rewarding, well-paying career that benefits millions of people every day? You may want to consider the utility industry. October 17 - 21 is National Careers in Energy Week and the Center for Energy Workforce Development, a non-profit organization comprised of electric, natural gas and nuclear utilities and their associations, notes that with the right education and training, the utility industry can provide many opportunities.
"CL&P and utilities all across the country are always on the lookout for people with the right backgrounds," said Tom Burns, CL&P's Director of Training. "National Careers in Energy Week is a great reminder that whether you are currently a student, in the military, or considering a career transition, utilities have a lot to offer."
Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has issued a proclamation in support of National Careers in Energy Week, noting that "new workers are needed to ensure the future by replacing retiring workers and maintaining a skilled workforce."
A recent U.S. Department of Commerce report showed that over the last decade, jobs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) grew at a faster rate than non-STEM jobs, and are projected to continue that growth through 2018.
"By doing a little research, you'll find that there are scholarships, grants, and at many utilities around the country, including CL&P, internship programs that provide selected candidates with hands-on training," adds Burns.
