HARTFORD, July 15 – Some girl’s jewelry sold at “Justice” youth stores is being recalled due to high levels of cadmium, Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. said today. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Tween Brands, Inc. of New Albany, Ohio today announced a voluntary recall of more than a dozen styles of children’s metal necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled items and return them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
About 137,000 of the recalled metal necklaces, bracelets and earrings, distributed by Tween Brands, have been sold in Justice Stores and Limited Too stores and online at www.shopjustice.com from November 2008 through February 2010 for between $7 and $16.
This recall involves 19 different styles, including hearts, heart locks, butterflies, cupcakes, peace signs and crowns. Some items contain the words "Best," "Friends" or "Forever" and/or "BFF." Only style numbers listed below are included in this recall. The style number is included on the jewelry's packaging.
Although no injuries have so far been reported, cadmium is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.
