Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting recall effectiveness checks on retail establishments in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “It’s a Girl Thing” Bracelets, Necklaces and Phone Charms, due to high levels of lead. This product was manufactured in China and distributed by Bead Bazaar USA Inc., of Rockville, Maryland.

This jewelry includes a variety of charms such as butterflies, flowers, shoes and letters. “It’s a Girl Thing” is printed on the packaging. Packages with the following UPC numbers are involved in the recall: Necklace (633870018426); Bracelets (633870018410) and the Phone Charm (633870018433).

This product was sold nationwide at a variety of retail establishments from February 2006 to June 2008 for approximately $6.00.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. strongly recommends that parents check their children’s jewelry for any of these products and if found, immediately remove from their possession and return to the place of purchase. For additional information, please call Bead Bazaar USA toll free at (800) 838-1769, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET or visit their website at www.beadkit.com.
