Colonial Camp
Colonial Camp this summer at the New Canaan Historical Society offers a wide range of hands-on activities and projects for campers, age 6 through 11. This year there are four separate weekly sessions: June 23 – 27; July 14 – 18; August 4 – 8 and 11 – 15. All sessions run Monday through Friday from 9:15 to 12 noon. Participants may sign up for the series or for one or more individual sessions. New projects and activities are introduced each week.

Campers will have opportunities to bake delicious colonial recipes, such as apple crisp and cornbread and to prepare homemade lemonade. They will also learn to make their own candles, cornhusk and clothespin dolls, tops and toys. New adventures might include trying their hand at weaving, paper marbling, stenciling and cross-stitching as well as carpentry and farming. Other experiences include playing traditional games of both Colonial and Native American children, dressing in colonial costume, portraying the role of a colonial child, and enjoying the Society’s beautiful campus which includes an historic house, herb garden and schoolroom from colonial times.
