STAMFORD, CT – The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education (“The Center”) today announced it is presenting “Trauma Informed Care with a Focus on Sexual Abuse.” The conference, which is sponsored by UBS, will take place on Wednesday, February 8th from8:30 a.m. to 12:30 P.M. at the University of Connecticut/Stamford Campus, One University Place, Stamford, CT (corner of Broad Street and Washington Blvd.).
This year’s conference, Trauma Informed Care with a Focus on Sexual Assault, focuses on the social, psychological and neurological effects of traumatic stress. This training will provide participants with a basic understanding of a victim's response to traumatic stress based on the impact this major life event has had on him/her physically and psychologically. This program has been approved for Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT, and meets the continuing education criteria for CT Social Work Licensure renewal.
“Often, individuals served by social services professionals have experienced trauma, such as sexual assault. Trauma can be the trigger for risky and maladaptive behaviors. Therefore, it is important for all people serving the community to understand how trauma affects the development and adjustment of individuals,” explained Ivonne Zucco, Executive Director of The Center.
