The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering is developing plans to reline existing storm culverts on Route 148 in Killingworth and Route 82 in Chester.

It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.

This project will address three deteriorated culverts under Routes 82 and 148 in the Towns of Chester and Killingworth. Site 1 (Bridge # 06739) is a 6’ corrugated metal pipe located on Route 148 approximately 1.89 miles southeast of the intersection of Route 148 and Route 79 in the Town of Killingworth. Site 2 (Bridge # 06740) is a 6’-7” X 4-’9” corrugated metal pipe arch located on Route 148 approximately 0.89 miles west of the intersection of Route 148 and Route 81 in the Town of Killingworth. Site 3 (Bridge #06665) is a 11’ round corrugated metal pipe located on Route 82 at the intersection with the Route 9 on and off ramps in the Town of Chester.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in November, 2012, with construction anticipated to start in Spring, 2013. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.

Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. Timothy M. Wilson, Manager of Highway Design, at (860) 594-3189, or by email at Timothy.Wilson@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project Number 0172-0393.
