Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Daniel C. Esty is bringing his “Commissioner in Your Corner” series to the Connecticut Forest and Park Association in Rockfall, CT on Saturday, January 7 beginning at 10:00 a.m. As part of the event, the Commissioner will join CFPA for their Winter Trails Day.
Commissioner Esty will take a Winter Hike with Eric Hammerling, Executive Director of CFPA. The public is invited to join Commissioner Esty, CFPA and REI for these events – and there will be an opportunity to discuss energy and environmental issues of interest.
10:15 a.m – Short guided hike in the forest behind the CFPA office – on snowshoes if weather permits
10:45 a.m. – Stories by the Fire – Gather around the fire with Lynn Kochiss, a local educator of the year, as she reads a variety of children’s nature story books. Great family activity
12:00 Noon - Speaking Ceremony with town officials, Commissioner Esty, Eric Hammerling and REI representative.
Commissioner Esty said, “CFPA is a tremendous partner of DEEP’s in working to protect Connecticut’s natural resources and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors. Through the work of CFPA, the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System, covering 825 miles of trails, is maintained by dedicated volunteers who ensure that the trails remain open and are safe getaways for all of us to enjoy.”
“The ‘Commissioner in Your Corner’ events are designed to highlight the tremendous natural resources our state enjoys and also make certain that I am available to meet and hear from the public. The ‘Commissioner in Your Corner’ initiative is a way to accomplish both these goals – to visit and tour a tremendous outdoor location – such as the forested lands at the CFPA office in Rockfall and while there, to talk with residents about energy and environmental issues,” added Esty.
CFPA and REI are sponsoring Winter Trails Day and will provide snowshoeing clinics, guided hikes, WalkCT Family Ramble activities and more.
