WETHERSFIELD, CT - The Department of Motor Vehicles today opened its seventh new test-by-appointment center for learner's permits with Danbury joining Bridgeport, Cheshire, Norwalk, Wethersfield, Hamden and Willimantic.

Any teen or adult needing a learner's permit can go to to schedule an appointment. The DMV Danbury office will take appointments beginning today for the December 17 start of testing there.

The Danbury Office is located at 2 Lee Mac Avenue. The six other offices already are testing by appointment. This test-by-appointment system is part of a new and growing service DMV is offering to help customers avoid waiting in line. It captures DMV's efforts to better integrate technology that produces taxpayer savings and makes government more responsive.

“We now add Danbury to the growing roster in our popular online system. The offices continue to expand and give more convenience to customers wanting an appointment,” said DMV Commissioner Melody A. Currey.

The appointment process will replace the Danbury office’s current walk-in-and-wait process for a learner’s permit test.

Customers should go soon to to book appointments because schedules fill quickly.

The majority of customers taking a survey after completing the test report being very satisfied with the new online system.

Through a home computer, portable laptop, tablet, smartphone or any device with an internet connection, someone can schedule the learner’s permit knowledge test for a specific day at one of DMV’s test centers offering appointments.

Computers with internet access are also in the test center offices to make an appointment or can be found at places such as a local public library for access to the internet-based system. After entering required information, a $59 payment for the learner’s permit test must be made through a major credit card or electronic check.

There are no extra charges for making an online appointment.
