Connecticut based adventure traveler, tour leader and photographer Deborah Lewis will share photographs and experiences of hiking tours she has led in Sicily in an audio visual presentation entitled “Hiking in Sicily” The largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily is a land of beauty, mystery, and world-class monuments. Much of the ancient civilized world has conquered Sicily including Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Ostrogoths, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, and Spaniards. The result is a unique, diverse mixture of culture, customs, language, cooking and architecture. Some of the finest Greek ruins are in Sicily. Deborah’s presentation will include hiking in the lovely Zingaro Nature Preserve, the Madonie Mountains, and on Mt Etna, Sicily’s greatest natural attraction. She will also highlight some of Sicily’s most beautiful towns including Erice, Cefalu and Taormina, with its well preserved Greek theater, as well as the dramatic and varied nearby Aeolian Islands.
