Department of Consumer Protection conducts recall effectiveness checks on children’s toy robots, fake teeth and pens due to lead hazard

Department of Consumer Protection conducts recall effectiveness checks on children’s toy robots, fake teeth and pens due to lead hazard
Interchange Robot Toys
Product Safety Inspectors from the Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of children’s Interchange Robot Toys, Hillbilly Teeth and Seasonal Writing Pens, due to excessive levels of lead. All of these products were manufactured in China .

The Interchange Robot Toys, imported by OKK Trading Inc. of Commerce, California , were sold at Dollar Stores nationwide for approximately $1.00 from October 2007 through December 2007. The products were sold as a four (4) piece set with the various colored robots carrying a shield in one hand and a gun in the other. (See Photo, Page 2) Consumers should return this product to the store where purchased for a refund.

Hillibilly Teeth
Hillbilly Teeth, imported by FUNTASTIC of Houston, Texas, were sold nationwide from March 2005 through March 2008 for approximately $2.00 at various mass retailers, drug, grocery, and convenience stores. The recalled brown and yellow Hillbilly Teeth were sold in a 2-pack, Item #2657. The item number is printed on the packaging. Consumers should contact FUNTASTIC for information on a refund. Call FUNTASTIC at toll-free (800) 434-5207, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Central Time or visit their website at www.funtastictoy.com.

Flower Writers, Christmas Writers, Easter Writers, and Spooky Writers Seasonal Writing Pens, distributed by Michaels Stores Inc., of Irving , Texas were sold nationwide exclusively at Michaels Retail Stores for approximately $1.00, from August 2007 through March 2008. These pens were sold individually. Each pen has a theme which includes ornamentation for the holidays.

For a refund, consumers should return the pens to any Michaels Store. For additional information, please contact Michaels’ Customer Service at (800) 642-4235, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm CT or visit their website at www.michaels.com.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., strongly recommends that consumers check their homes for these products and if found, immediately remove from their children’s possession. Although no injuries have been reported, the potential for lead exposure is high.
