Product Safety Inspectors from the Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments this week, conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall on March 25, 2008 of Plan Toys Inc. Toy Penguins. The toys were manufactured in Thailand for Plan Toys Inc., of Mountain View , California . This product was sold in specialty toy stores and on-line for approximately $15.00 to $20.00 from May 2007 to February 2008.

The wooden Toy Penguin Figure stands 3 ¾ inches in height and is approximately 3 inches in diameter. It has a black head, yellow nose, white body with a red base, and rubber fins. When this toy is spun, a bell jingles. Printed on the outside of the packaging of this product is “PLAN TOYS” and UPC number 084543521109 or EAN number 8854740052117.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. urges consumers to check their children’s toys for this product and if found, immediately remove from their children’s possession. Return this item to the store where originally purchased for a refund or contact Plan Toys for details on returning this toy by mail. For additional information, please contact Plan Toys, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, toll free at (866) 517-7526 or visit their website at www.plantoys.com.

Although no actual injuries have been reported, the potential for injury is high due to the head of the penguin can easily detach, exposing sharp points which pose a serious laceration hazard.
