WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced that the Senate Appropriations Committee passed three appropriations bills with more than $64.2 million in funding for Connecticut projects. Dodd and Lieberman worked with their colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to make critical investments in a number of projects across the state. The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2011 Commerce, Justice and Science; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; and Energy and Water Appropriations Bills.
“This federal funding will support local and state projects, creating jobs and boosting our economy,” said Dodd. “Many of these projects address critical transportation, housing, and infrastructure needs across Connecticut. These are priorities for our local communities, which are struggling with tight budgets and will benefit from this federal support.”
“In these tough economic times, it is particularly critical to support both the essential needs and the innovative projects across our state,” said Lieberman. “If approved, this funding will help make Connecticut a better place to live by improving road ways and public transportation, protecting our environment, and providing safety for those who need it most while also stimulating the economy and creating jobs.”
Below is a list of funding from which Connecticut stands to benefit:
STATEWIDE/REGIONAL
* $42,345,000 to the Connecticut Department of Transportation for construction of the New Britain – Hartford Bus Rapid Transit System
* $10,466,000 to the Army Corps of Engineers for project condition surveys across the state, inspection of completed works and projects in North Grosvenordale, Thomaston, Stamford, Pawcatuck, Mystic, Mansfield, Middlebury and Riverton
* 2,000,000 to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection for the development of a Dredged Materials Management Plan for the Long Island Sound
* $600,000 to the Connecticut State University System to support a nanotechnology initiative for research and development at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven
* $400,000 to the Valley Council of Governments for a Valley Renaissance Program, to encourage private investment in the renovation, repair, and preservation of existing commercial and mixed-used buildings in transit-oriented development in Ansonia, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton
* $350,000 to the Army Corps of Engineers for a Connecticut River Watershed Basin a hydrological study supported by the Nature Conservancy
* $350,000 to the Connecticut Commission on Child Protection for at-risk children services and technology in offices in Hartford, Stamford/Norwalk and Willimantic
* $300,000 to the Connecticut State University System for a Family Justice Center, that will provide support services for domestic violence victims and their families
BLOOMFIELD
* $200,000 to the Pillar Community Development Corporation for the construction of a community wellness center
BRIDGEPORT
* $1,200,000 to the City of Bridgeport for the reconstruction of Congress Street Bridge
* $500,000 to the City of Bridgeport for the Lighthouse After-School Program
* $375,000 to the City of Bridgeport for Public Safety Technology Enhancements
BRISTOL
* $500,000 to the City of Bristol to acquire blighted property and renovate facilities to create an industrial park
DANBURY
* $400,000 to Western Connecticut State University for the Expanded Building a Bridge to Improve Student Success At-Risk Youth Project
EAST HARTFORD
* $500,000 to the City of East Hartford for repairing and upgrading public infrastructure related to the levee near North Meadows Industrial Park

* $750,000 to the Town of Enfield for a public safety radio communications improvements

* $100,000 to the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a flood study of the Byram River Watershed

* $500,000 to the Artists Collective for an at-risk youth prevention initiative

* $500,000 to the Borough of Naugatuck for a public safety communication improvements

* $400,000 to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for maintenance dredging in the New Haven Harbor

* $1,000,000 to the City of Stamford for improvements to railroad underpasses on Atlantic Street, Canal Street, East Main Street, and Elm Street.
* $500,000 to the City of Stamford for pedestrian safety improvements around the Stamford Intermodal Transportation Center
* $467,000 to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for maintenance of the Stamford Hurricane Barrier
