Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) announced today that the towns of East Windsor and Kent will receive funds to improve their wastewater treatments systems. East Windsor will receive a $2,180,000 loan and $1,707,000 grant and Kent will receive a $515,000 loan and $418,600 grant for the projects. The funding will be provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and was made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

“This critical investment in our state’s infrastructure will help protect the water supplies that Connecticut communities depend on,” said Dodd. “With these funds we can continue to make necessary improvements to our state’s water management systems, helping to deliver safe drinking water while creating new jobs in our communities.”

The funding was provided through the USDA Water and Environmental Program, which provides loans and grants to rural areas for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. The USDA is providing more than $157.3 million to rural communities across the nation for 34 water and wastewater infrastructure projects through the Recovery Act and an additional $45.6 million through other USDA funding.
