Dr. Mary A Papazian, President of Southern Connecticut State University, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Armenian Genocide Commemoration which will be held in the House Chambers at the State Capitol on Saturday, April 21, 2012, starting at 11 a.m.
The announcement was made by State Representative Christopher Wright (D-Bristol), Chairman of the Armenian Genocide Commemoration event.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Papazian will be the keynote speaker at this annual commemoration,” Rep. Wright said. “She assumed the presidency of Southern in February and is a highly respected scholar and administrator. We are proud to have her with us at this solemn event.”
During the horrific period of the Genocide, between 1915 and 1923, over 1.5 million people had suffered and perished at the hand of the Turkish Government. Five hundred thousand others were driven from their homes into exile.
“We invite everyone to join us in remembering the victims and to celebrate the triumph of those who survived,” Rep. Wright said.
