Participants in the Family Strengthening Program at Family & Children’s Agency (FCA) learned how to maintain good nutrition and strong relationships for themselves and their family members at a recent “Healthy Heart” lunch. Volunteers from FactSet Research Systems, Inc. sponsored the event with festive room decorations and a healthy lunch for parents and their children. The Women’s Forum at FactSet produced a Healthy Heart Cookbook containing easy, inexpensive recipes that would appeal to both children and adults, which they distributed to the families.

One FactSet volunteer, Sara Potter, demonstrated a recipe for oatmeal cookies, drawing the attention of everyone at the event when she provided samples. The event included a presentation by Norwalk chiropractor Dr. Erik Slovin, who talked about ways to use food to lose weight and to change a mood, for example, from energetic to calm. As the adults listened to the presentation, the FactSet volunteers engaged the children with toys, games, and crafts. Kathleen Callahan, a FactSet employee, shown above with Anderson Chavez, felt that “the children enjoyed the attention, and they seemed happy.”

Family & Children’s Agency (FCA) is a non-profit family service organization meeting the needs of more than 10,000 individuals – including children, adults, and families – throughout Fairfield County. Skilled professionals serve clients in seven impact areas: youth development, family strengthening, foster care, adoption, behavioral health, homeless services, and services for seniors. For every dollar donated to FCA, 89 cents goes directly to help clients in these program areas.
