Norwalk, CT - Family & Children’s Agency is proud to announce the reinstatement of their Project REWARD Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a women’s alcohol and drug addiction recovery program, on September 17, 2018. Project REWARD is the only gender-specific outpatient substance abuse program for women in southern Fairfield County. By focusing the program on the needs of women, clients can focus on recovery.
“Many women with substance abuse issues have histories of trauma and they need a place that feels safe and supportive to begin to work on overcoming their past and achieving sobriety for their future,” said Elizabeth Murdoch, Director of Behavioral Health at Family & Children’s Agency.
Clients in Project REWARD’s IOP will attend three-hour long sessions three times each week for a total of 10 weeks. In this safe environment, they will focus on topics including healthy coping skills, relapse prevention, interpersonal relationships, and parenting. In addition, child care and transportation will be provided to help remove significant barriers to treatment.
The need for this program is great. According to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), southwestern Fairfield County had the highest state-wide percentage of clients reporting use of opiates. However, more than 80% of those in need have to travel outside the region for care. In addition to a lack of available resources for those struggling with addiction, the region faces a lack of gender-specific treatment options for women. With a 76-year history of providing comprehensive services, FCA is uniquely qualified to provide these services.
