The Department of Parks and Recreation announces the locations of the two Town Fireworks Displays in honor of Independence Day. For the fourth consecutive year, we will offer displays at Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park. Both shows are scheduled for Friday, July 3, with a rain date of Sunday, July 5. The Binney Park show will begin at about 9:10 pm and fireworks at Greenwich Point will start at approximately 9:30 pm.
It is necessary for those planning to attend the display at Greenwich Point to remember that the rules for Greenwich Point access will be the same as always on the day of the fireworks. The Point will be closed when the maximum number of cars for the available parking spaces has been achieved. The Point will close to vehicular traffic no later than 8:30 pm, so visitors must plan to arrive earlier. Cooperation with the Police will be needed. Greenwich Point will be closed immediately following the conclusion of the display. As always, spectators are urged to car pool, plan ahead and be patient. Measures will again be taken by Town Safety personnel to provide proper medical coverage, a comfortable environment, and safe and efficient exit from Greenwich Point after the fireworks. These will include, a managed parking and traffic flow plan, assistance from G.E.M.S. with medical coverage, and portable lighting at strategic areas around Greenwich Point. Spectators are urged to bring a flashlight and leaving the Point on bicycles is not advised, especially for children. The display will be fired from the corner of Greenwich Point well beyond the South Concession Stand. A limited area of the Point will be restricted from public use on the day of the fireworks. People wishing to walk the Point will find a path detour in the Bluff Point Area of the Park. There will be many areas at Greenwich Point, including the main beach, which will offer exciting views of the dazzling colors that will fill the sky. Spectators in boats will find great views from Long Island Sound around the Point.
The Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department Band will once again play at the Binney Park display. We will have disc jockey at Greenwich Point Park in the South Concession area. In addition, cooking will be allowed only in designated areas at Greenwich Point. Cooking is not permitted on the Beach and all other park and beach rules will be in effect, including no glassware allowed within 200 feet of the beach. Swimming at Greenwich Point will be prohibited after sunset. There will be no grills or open fires allowed at Binney Park. While dogs are not permitted at Greenwich Point, pets should not be brought to any fireworks display.
Information sheets are available at the Greenwich Point Ticket Booth. Please also check our website, www.greenwichct.org, and click on Check Out Parks and Recreation for up to date information on this and other programs.
