The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced today that five of the seven closed swimming areas closed earlier this week are now open and will remain open for the upcoming weekend. These include: Rocky Neck, East Lyme; Sherwood Island, Westport; Silver Sands, Milford; Kettletown, Southbury, and Wharton Brook, Wallingford.

The swimming areas at Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown and Black Rock State Park in Thomaston remain closed due to elevated levels of bacteria in the water as a result of recent heavy rains.

The water has or will be re-sampled at Black Rock and Wadsworth Falls. Pending test results the swimming areas may re-open for the weekend.

Below is a chart of the two swimming areas that are closed, the date of water re-sampling and the date that test results are expected.

Inland: Water Re-sampled Results
Black Rock 8/26 – a.m. 8/27 – p.m.
Wadsworth Falls 8/27 – a.m. 8/28 – p.m.
