Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that she has ordered U.S. and State of Connecticut flags lowered to half-staff through sundown on Friday, May 30 in honor of a Vietnam War serviceman from Hartford whose remains were recently located and are being returned home for burial.
The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced May 27 that the remains of four U.S. servicemen, missing in action from the Vietnam War, have been identified and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors, including Major Barclay B. Young, of Hartford.
When Major Young’s interment plans are finalized by his family, Governor Rell will once again order flags to half staff.
“The news brings home the true meaning of Memorial Day and serves as a solemn, poignant reminder of the sacrifice that Major Young and so many others made on our behalf during the Vietnam War,” Governor Rell said. “Our hearts go out to the Young family, and we want them to know that we are thinking of them during this difficult time. The pain of Major Young’s loss is felt by the entire state of Connecticut.”
