Free AARP Tax Aide help continues for the Norwalk Public Library system

The Norwalk Public Library System continues the free tax help available through the AARP Tax Aide program of the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS. The Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue location service is on Thursday evenings from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday mornings, 9:15 am - 1:30 pm in the Library's 2nd floor auditorium until April 15. The South Norwalk Branch Library, 10 Washington St, South Norwalk location service is on Tuesdays, from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturdays 9:15 am - 1:30 pm until April 13.
The AARP Tax Aide volunteers provide free tax counseling and preparation services for low and middle-income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to those 60 and older. If married, both husband and wife should be present during an income tax counseling session.
No appointment is needed at this location - certain forms and personal and financial documents are required to process your tax information.
Taxpayers must have available all information and documents that have been received that apply to their 2009 income taxes including:

Proof of identity (picture or other documentation).
Social Security or Individual Tax ID numbers ( Society Security Card or Benefit Statement Form SSA-1099)for all taxpayer and all taxpayer's dependents
Personal check, if available, with bank checking account and routing numbers.
A copy of last year's Federal and State tax return(s); Current tax forms and the preparation booklet;
All 2009 income report forms received:
SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits; ·RRB-1099-R US Railroad Retirement Board forms (pension or annuity), ·W-2, Wage and Tax Statement forms.
·W-2G, Certain Gambling Winnings forms. ·Unemployment compensation statements;
·All 1099 forms(1099-INT, 1099-OID, 1099-DIV, 1099-R, 1099-B, 1099-S, 1099-MISC)
·Documents relating to deductible expenses including total real estate taxes paid.
·Documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets;
·All receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions;
