Norwalk, CT - Aitoro’s Appliance Showroom in Norwalk was the site of “Galaxy of Gourmets for STAR” on Thursday night, a casual, family-friendly fundraising event that included music, mingling and tastings of gourmet food and drinks from 15 chefs in Fairfield County showcased in their dream kitchens. Over $6,000 was raised at the event to benefit STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way’s programs and services for infants, children, adults and seniors who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Approximately 110 people attended the event held at 401 Westport Avenue in Norwalk on Thursday, March 6 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Honorary Chairpersons for the event included Assaf and Rebecca Ben-Atar of Norwalk, David and SarahTaylor of Wilton, George Santangelo of Wilton, and Cheryl Henchar of Stamford. Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, Senator Bob Duff and State Representative Gail LaVielle were also at the event. During the evening, Senator Bob Duff and STAR’s Executive Director Katie Banzhaf announced that STAR had just been awarded a $522,100 state grant!

Participating restaurants included SoNo Brewhouse, KAZU Sono, Osteria Romana, Michael Joseph’s Restaurant and Catering of Darien, North East Seafood, Olivette of Darien, Anna’s Cakery, Dolce of Norwalk, Saffron, Dash of Salt Catering, Pontos Taverna, UnCOOK, Wave Hill Breads and Romanacci. Nestle Waters NA and Highlight Imports CT provided beverages for the event. Restaurant chefs prepared gourmet specialties onsite such as pasta sugo, traditional souvlaki with pita and tzatziki sauce, homemade cavatelli pasta with vodka sauce, chicken biryani, vegetable pukoras, crab cakes, assorted salmon, avocado and tuna sushi rolls, pulled pork sliders and chocolate kahlua, red velvet and white almond cupcakes, among other specialties. A raw oyster and clam bar was also onsite.
Musical groups Bobby and The Extras and STAR’s own Rubberband, performed for partygoers. In addition, Bluey the Bridgeport Bluefish mascot greeted the guests, and the myriad of television monitors in the showroom featured an assortment of STAR videos. A Chinese auction of desirable wines and restaurant certificates was also on hand.
