Southport, CT – Celebrate National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with Pequot's first annual writer's conference Image, Memory, Event: A Workshop in Poetry and Prose on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Join Tim Tomlinson of the New York Writers Workshop for a day of workshops focusing on your creative process. Look at samples of poetry and prose that, through image and memory, capture the essence of an event. Use samples to write drafts of poems and narrative prose of your own, and then share your work with fellow writers. Open to those without experience and to those who’ve published volumes. Registration required at pequotlibrary.org. Limited to 20 participants. $100 for the day, lunch included. The all-day workshop breaks down as follows Session I: 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (poetry), Session II: 1:10 – 2:45 p.m. (prose), Reading: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. This workshop is open to both fiction and nonfiction writers.

Tomlinson is a co-founder of New York Writers Workshop and co-author of its popular text, The Portable MFA in Creative Writing. His first collection of short fiction, This Is Not Happening to You, was published in November 2017. He is also the author of Requiem for the Tree Fort I Set on Fire (poetry), and Yolanda: An Oral History in Verse. His work has been published in China, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia, and anthologized in the Brooklyn Poets Anthology, We Contain Multitudes: Twelve Years of Softblow, and Long Island Noir. He is a member of Asia Pacific Writers & Translators and teaches in the Global Liberal Studies program at NYU.
