STAMFORD, CT - Children from the Stamford community will enjoy a special treat on Friday, August 1st. Alan Katz, a brilliant children’s author for over 10 years, will delight the children of the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford’s Summer Fun Camp with his tremendous humor, kindness and renowned silliness. Mr. Katz will read to the camp’s 6-8 year olds as part of the Clubs’ Summer Learning Celebration. The camp, which is funded in part by the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Bank Of America, Person-To-Person and the First County Bank Foundation provides a fulfilling summer camp experience and helps prevent “summer learning loss” which often plagues our low income children. The children will also enjoy the musical talents of Jay and Ray Music for Everybody. Jay and Ray are a dynamic musical duo that understands what rock & roll means to everybody. When this group performs, expect the unexpected!!

Over 300 low income youth, ages 6 -14, are benefitting from the summer camp at the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford each week day. “The children have worked hard each morning on their educational activities so we wanted to reward them with a special day. A performance by Jay & Ray Music will be a perfect complement to the humor of Alan Katz. We are fortunate to have an author of Alan Katz’s stature join us. It will be a real treat for our kids”, states Michael Cotela, Director of the Boys & Girls Club. Cotela continues, “The Fairfield County Community Foundation, Bank Of America, Person-To-Person and the First County Bank Foundation have championed our efforts to support the low income children of Stamford for many years and are again helping us to provide unique educational activities such as the Immersion Learning Science Initiative, Stride Academy, Brain Gain, Chess Club and educational games. The Boys & Girls Club and its community partners recognize the importance of strengthening our children’s educational skills by continuing the academic learning process throughout the summer”.

Alan Katz is a successful print and television writer and has majored in silliness for more than 30 years. During this time, he has written for many Emmy-nominated TV shows (five years’ worth of parody songs and other funny stuff for The Rosie O’Donnell Show), animated series like Taz-Mania, Disney’s Raw Toonage and Goof Troop, several editions of the Grammy Awards and Tony Awards, Kids Are People Too, a number of Nickelodeon projects including Whoopi’s Littleburg, network specials, game shows, articles for publications including the New York Times and the New York Daily News. In addition, he has created hundreds of comic books, trading cards, web videos, and other special projects for kids and their parents.

Jay and Ray Music’s passion for music comes from fond childhood memories and families that encouraged and inspired musical learning. These roots have motivated Jay and Ray to create ‘Music for Everybody.’ The vision of their teachings is to ‘make learning music about joy’. Whether a class, party or school event, Jay and Ray’s performances are energetic, silly and fun, rooted in play based learning. It is an exploration of rhythm, melody and movement.
