Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra took additional steps today to further increase transparency of city policies and practices and ensure that already strong ethics and management practices fully comply with federal regulations.

“This is the first time in our City’s 376 year history that we have ever had policies like these in place. By creating a work group that included representatives from Corporation Counsel, Internal Audit, MHIS, Emergency Services and Telecommunications, Finance, and my Cabinet, I am confident these new policies will hold city employees to a higher standard of customer service and accountability, while simultaneously acknowledging the critical importance of compliance and proper work etiquette and behavior. I want to thank the team for lending their expertise and insight to help city employees better serve those who live, work and play in Hartford,” said Mayor Segarra.

Through Mayoral Order, the following policies are in effect and will be available for review on www.hartford.gov:

1. Vehicle Usage Policy

2. Nepotism Policy

3. Information Technology Resources Policy

4. Social Media Usage Policy

Additionally, the Mayor recently submitted an ordinance to City Council that would further strengthen the City’s Ethics Code and make Hartford one of the municipalities with the largest number of employees required to file Statements of Financial Interest.

On the Information Technology policy, all present and future City-side employees will be required to sign this agreement that will be inserted in their individual personnel files.

All policies were sent to City Council members and the appropriate union leaders for review prior to full implementation.
