The City of Hartford grieves with the City of Bridgeport as the State mourns the loss of two fallen firefighters, Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baik. Mayor Pedro E. Segarra extends his “sincere condolences with a heavy heart” and has asked Councilman Larry Deutch to deliver letters today to the families of these brave men who died last week while battling a blaze.

On Friday, the Hartford Fire Department will send one engine ladder and district chief to the Bridgeport Fire Headquarters to provide coverage to that City so that firefighters can attend services.

Chief Edward Casares, Jr, also sends his deep sympathy and to the residents of Hartford adds that he “prays we never have to ask for this type of assistance.”

Also on Friday, Majority Leader rJo Winch and Councilman Calixto Torres, who serves as the Public Safety Committee Chairman, will attend the Ceremony of Firefighters as representatives of the Capital City’s delegation.
