This week's jackpots for all lottery games are quite enticing. Powerball is at $317,000,000, Megamillions is at $119,000,000, and Lotto is over $4,000,000. The CT Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) wants to continue to remind consumers that if they choose to play, they need to "Play Responsibly."
While Lottery games can be fun and entertaining for some, for others it can lead to serious problems. As jackpots continue to increase, CCPG wants consumers to understand the risk factors that lead to problem gambling and ensure that consumers use good judgment if choosing to engage in a gambling activity.
Some risk factors that can lead to problem or pathological gambling include:
Belief that gambling will solve money problems
Spending money beyond their means
Lying about the extent of one's gambling
Unable to cut down or stop gambling
Neglecting family, work, or school due to gambling
Borrowing or stealing money to gamble
The CT Council on Problem Gambling is dedicated to increasing prevention, education, awareness, and training around the issues of problem gambling. We provide a 24-hour confidential HELPLINE to connect problem gamblers, their families, and others impacted by the gambler's behavior to resources in our state.
Lottery play is intended for individuals 18 years and older. It is illegal to purchase tickets if you are under the age of 18. The CT Council on Problem Gambling also strongly discourages individuals and families from purchasing tickets for youth under 18 years of age. The younger an individual begins engaging in gambling behavior, the more likely they are to develop a gambling problem in adulthood.
Being in Action is the High that accompanies all problem gambling behaviors.
If you think you or someone you care about may have a gambling problem
