The Sleeping Giant Park Association (SGPA) will hold its annual Hike-A-Giant event on Sunday, June 8, 2008, in celebration of Trails Day nationwide and in Connecticut. We will be offering a choice of two or three simultaneous hikes. An easy one, at a slower pace, is designed for those who are hikers in spirit, including children who enjoy hiking. It will cover the Nature Trail, a loop about 1.6 miles long, with moderate ups and downs. The most demanding of the hikes will include some of our more difficult trails and will be about 5 miles in length. An hike of intermediate difficulty, between 2 and 3 miles long, may also be offered.

Hike registration begins at 1:00 PM, and the hikes will start at 1:30 PM. They will probably range from about 2˝ hours (for the Nature Trail hike) to about 3˝ hours (for the most demanding hike). Wear comfortable, supportive shoes, and bring water and additional snacks if you wish. Out of consideration for the other hikers, please leave pets at home. All events of the day are free and open to the public. Tee shirts and other offerings from the Sleeping Giant Trading Post will be available for purchase.

The entrance to the Sleeping Giant Park is just off Route 10 in northern Hamden, on Mt. Carmel Avenue, on the left, across from Quinnipiac University. Park in the Sleeping Giant Park lot (for a fee) or on the street, where permitted.
