In bad economic times, CHEFA supports Domestic Violence services

Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) announced today that they will be receiving $180,000 from Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) to be used to provide violence prevention and education programs to youth across Connecticut communities.

According to Jeffrey A. Asher, executive director of CHEFA, "We are very proud of our commitment to the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence both in terms of the amount that we have been able to provide and, more importantly, the people that we have been able to help through your efforts and those of the CT Youth Forum's Teen Dating and Relationship Violence Prevention Program and the programs of the Office of the Child Advocate. Our full commitment to the Coalition now totals $720,000, including the $180,000 we will distribute on June 18th."

On Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 90 Pitkin Street, East Hartford, CCADV in partnership with CHEFA will hold a press conference to kick off the new funding cycle. Speakers include Governor M. Jodi Rell, Jeffrey A. Asher, Executive Director of CHEFA, Erika Tindill, Executive Director of CCADV and representatives from the Center for Women and Families.

"Given that domestic violence, child maltreatment and youth violence have continued to pervade our society; it seems evident that a sole reliance on criminal justice responses has proven inadequate. It is time for a new orientation toward prevention, early intervention and a more holistic approach, which offers hope of finally stopping the intergenerational cycle of violence," said Erika Tindill, Esq. Executive Director of CCADV.

The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a membership organization whose purpose is to work together to end domestic violence by advocating for victims and changing the social conditions, beliefs and social actions that perpetuate abuse against victims of domestic violence.
