Family fun, barbeques and fireworks usually mark Independence Day and this year is no exception.

Fairfield County is known for one of the most elaborate firework displays in the nation and the schedule provides plenty of opportunities for area fans of this pyrotechnic art.

Here are this year’s 4th of July celebrations in southwestern Connecticut:

Stamford: July 3 (rain date – July 5) at Cumming park – a special program starts at 6 p.m. , fireworks begin after dusk (around 9:15 p.m.)

Norwalk: July 3 at Calf - program starts at 6 pm and fireworks fly after dusk.

Rowayton: July 4 at Bayley Beach - program begins at 6 pm, fireworks start around 9:15 p.m. (rain date July 6).

Westport: July 3 (rain date July 7) at Compo Beach, after dusk.

Wilton: Independence Day will be celebrated with fireworks after dusk on July 4 at Wilton High School.

Greenwich: Two locations will provide shows for Independence Day on July 5 in Greenwich (rain date July 6) – Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park. Fireworks are lit after dusk.

Those who will be around the Mystic or Bristol areas on the 4th of July might want to consider Independence Day treats by the Mystic Seaport and Lake Compounce:

Mystic: Mystic Seaport has arranged a family fun day, starting at 9 am on July 4 with fireworks after 5 pm.

Bristol: Lake Compounce will start a celebration program at 11 am on July 4.
