Mariel the shoe bar, with locations in West Hartford Center and in Avon at The Shops at Avon Green welcomes a very special guest who not only knows how to appreciate beautiful shoes, but also has some inspiring stories to tell about them. On Saturday May 10th, Ms. Yvonne L. Williams, M. Ed., will be at the West Hartford Center location at 990 Farmington Avenue from 10am to noon and at the Avon boutique at 44 West Main Street from 1pm to 3pm. Her new book, It’s All About the Shoes: Hope, Heartbreak and The Search for The Perfect Pair, is a fitting tome for Mariel the shoe bar as the stories that women share about their love affair with shoes pair well with the high fashion and beautiful variety of the boutiques. The stories span the gamut from heartwarming to hilarious, and are collected from real women across the United States, all from different walks of life, and with an inspirational message to lend. Ms. Williams has reason to appreciate and recognize the beauty in life; eighteen years ago she was diagnosed and operated on for three simultaneous primary cancers located in four areas: ovarian, colon and endometrial. After ten grueling hours of surgery and months of chemotherapy treatment she is cancer-free and has been “on call” to those in need of hope, spreading her uplifting message around the world. She has been called a miracle and inspiration by many. “Today I am content, healthy and happier and I have spent the last eighteen years ministering to the sick and dying and I tell them that it is lifesaving to love themselves,” says Ms. Williams. “In the face of death and through it all I have learned to: Take my brick walls; lay them flat and make them stepping stones.” In addition, Ms. Williams is the author of Tested Faith: The Power of Mind Over Cancer and a much sought motivational speaker and spiritual life coach. Ms. Williams has appeared and been interviewed on hundreds of radio and TV programs and been featured in numerous articles. She is an Ambassador for the American Cancer Society and a past board member of Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts. “We are very honored to have Ms. Williams at both our boutiques to celebrate both Mother’s Day and her inspirational true life story,” say Mariel Peck, owner of both Mariel the shoe bar locations. “Her book is a great Mother’s Day gift and the inspirational stories will make people smile as well as remember their favorite pair of shoes and some of the funny things we women do to look our best!” Mariel the shoe bar has two boutique locations, the parent store in downtown West Hartford Center and the newest outlet in The Shops at Avon Green on West Main Street in Avon, CT. Mariel the shoe bar serves the hippest and hottest fashions in current footwear and handbags from the world’s top designers. Serving styles seven days a week. No ID required.
