NEW CANAAN, CT - Kathy McShane, Managing Director of Ladies Who Launch, Connecticut, was named March of Dimes Ambassador to help celebrate the March of Dimes 75th Anniversary. The anniversary celebration was held on October 2 at the Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien. Ms. McShane addressed over 100 people who enjoyed food provided by 15 area restaurants.
She was asked to be their ambassador, in part, because she had been a Regional Polio Poster Child for the organization when she was a child.
Ms McShane said, “When I was a child, the March of Dimes contributed ¾ of their income to families like mine. I am thankful to the March of Dimes for the help my family and I received from them those many years ago. I am a mother of 2, happily married for 35 years and a very successful business woman who now helps other women to be successful. Because of the help of the March of Dimes, I have been able to live my life to the fullest.”
The March of Dimes achieved its goal of eradicating polio in the US in 1979. They have continued their mission, which is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality.
The March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter provides education and intervention to help moms-to-be learn how to take care of themselves before, during and after pregnancy. When things don’t go as planned, they provide comfort and information to families.
The Connecticut Chapter also partners with local medical groups and organizations to establish guidelines for how to care for pregnant women and premature babies. They provide grants to researchers working to understand birth defects and premature birth and to find treatments and solutions.
