The Hartford Children’s Theatre is recognizing Ted Carroll, President of Leadership Greater Hartford (LGH), as a 2010 honoree at the Kid at Heart Gala, in recognition of his commitment to youth and the arts. The Gala will be held March 27, 2010 from 5:30 to 11 pm at the Bond Ballroom in Hartford, CT. More information and tickets for the Gala can be found at www.hartfordchildrenstheatre.org.

For the past 20 years the Hartford Children’s Theatre has taught thousands of Connecticut children lessons on respect and diversity through their mission to enrich the lives of the children in the Greater Hartford region. They provide access and exposure to high quality theater and related educational opportunities to youth.

Ted Carroll works to achieve a very similar goal for youth in the Hartford region through LGH, offering a variety programs for the community that work under their mission statement “Building Leaders while Building Community.” Three youth programs supported by LGH are High Hopes, Common Ground and Summer Nexus. These programs strive to instill leadership skills and the value of community service into teens. They also provide educational support and fun activities to keep teens busy after school. The youth programs of LGH reach hundreds of teens every year, making a difference in the community.

Carroll’s commitment to the youth in the community has gone beyond his work done for LGH. He served in a variety of volunteer roles, as an elected member of the Hartford Board of Education for eight years, as a Big Brother mentor for nine years through the Nutmeg Big Brothers, Big Sisters program, as founder of the Southend Community Childcare Center, and as the father of two daughters he served as a baseball coach for many years.

Over the years Mr. Carroll has received awards from various groups such as, Junior League of Hartford, which presented him with the President’s Award in 1996, the Community Leadership Association, which gave him the Preceptor Award in 2003, and the Spiritual Life Center which presented him with its Living Spirit Award in 2006. Most recently, he was named a finalist for the Hartford Business Journal’s annual Nonprofit Executive of the Year Award.

Leadership Greater Hartford (LGH) is one of the largest nonprofit community-based leadership organizations in the country. Our programs are designed to help people realize their leadership potential and inspire them to build strong, vibrant workplaces and communities throughout Greater Hartford. LGH also provides customized consulting, training and regional orientation programs for organizations throughout Greater Hartford. LGH has served the community for more than 33 years.
