HARTFORD, CT - Today Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford) applauded the State Senate's vote of 30 to 3 to confirm Stamford resident Andrew McDonald's nomination to be an Associate Judge of the Connecticut Supreme Court and a judge of the Superior Court.
Senator Leone said, "Andrew McDonald is a remarkable public servant who has excelled at every position he has served in. As he moves on to the judiciary, the third branch of state government he will have joined, I expect he will continue that track record of excellent service on behalf of our state's citizens. I served with Mr. McDonald in the state legislature, and I know him to be an honorable and reasonable man, always responsive to his constituents. I congratulate him on his new role."
If confirmed by the House of Representatives, McDonald will become the first openly gay appellate jurist in Connecticut's history.
From 2003 to 2011, McDonald served as state senator from the 27th Senatorial District, and was Chair of the Judiciary Committee. Senator Leone was elected to the same seat when McDonald resigned to serve as served as general counsel to the Office of the Governor for the State of Connecticut. He previously served on the Stamford Board of Finance from 1995 to 1999, and the Stamford Board of Representatives from 1993 to 1995.
McDonald graduated from Cornell University and the University of Connecticut School of Law. He served as a litigation partner for Pullman & Comley, LLC, where he chaired the firm's appellate practice, and additionally served as the director of legal affairs and corporation counsel for the City of Stamford.
