Mayor Perez thanks Dodd, Lieberman, and Larson

Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez thanks U.S. Senators Christopher Dodd and Joseph Lieberman and Congressman John Larson for their strong support of Hartford’s new Public Safety Complex that enhances safety, creates jobs, and saves energy.

Senators Dodd and Lieberman submitted proposals for Federal funding for several important Connecticut projects including the High Street Public Safety Complex. The Senate approved $1 million for the structure. The House separately approved $800,000 for Congressman Larson’s proposal for the same facility.

Mayor Perez says, “I want to thank Senators Dodd and Lieberman and Congressman Larson for their enthusiastic support. I look forward to the City receiving the maximum amount of Federal Funding possible for this ‘shovel ready’ project. The Public Safety Complex will improve response times and enhance emergency communication and coordination. This complex is more than a Homeland Security initiative, it is an economic catalyst. We’re creating 800 jobs, connecting neighborhoods, and tying together the City’s economic development progress--- especially those projects north of I-84.”

As work is being done to make way for this 21st Century complex, a portion of Hartford’s history is being preserved. The 35,000 square foot registered historical school house, built in 1891, will remain. A new addition will be built. Fuel-cell power will make the structure energy efficient. It will also be built to LEED Silver standards, with an emphasis on utilizing existing materials and incorporation of new green products and green construction methods.

The total cost of the Public Safety Complex is $85 million and construction is slated to be complete in April of 2011.
