Visitors will tour the historic Mystic River as the sun sets while listening to Maggie Jones, the Center’s executive director, discuss “Birds, Butterflies and Beaches: A Naturalist’s View from the Water,” a presentation which details the natural history of the river and its surrounding environs. The 90-minute cruise is part of the Museum’s continuing celebration of Sabino’s centennial anniversary. Tickets, which are $19.08, can be purchased by calling 860.572.5351. A cash bar will be available. Built in East Boothbay, Maine, Sabino entered service for the Damariscotta Steamboat Company in 1908. The 57-foot coal-fired steamer spent her days delivering passengers to the numerous hotels along the 12 miles of the scenic Damariscotta River. After a long career on the rivers of Maine and Massachusetts, Sabino was retired, and in 1975 began a new era of passenger service at Mystic Seaport. The significant restoration and meticulous care the steamer received at the Museum was recognized in 1992 when Congress designated Sabino a National Historic Landmark. Mystic Seaport is the nation’s leading maritime museum. The Museum is located one mile south of exit 90 off I-95 in Mystic, CT, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $18.50 for adults and $13 for children ages 6-17. Children 5 and under are admitted for free. For more information, call 888.973.2767 or visit www.mysticseaport.org. © Copyright by StamfordPlus.com.
