Mystic Seaport to host Wine & Food Festival

Four-day Event Offers Gourmet Cuisine, Wine Tastings, Live Jazz and More

Regional wines and al fresco dining will be featured at Mystic Seaport’s first Wine & Food Festival, Thursday through Sunday, July 31-August 3 from 12-7 p.m.

The event features the products of regional farmers, fishermen and vintners who practice sustainable agriculture and viniculture. Seamen’s Inne Executive Chef Tim Quinn and his team will provide cooking demonstrations, culinary tastings and educational food and wine seminars on the Village Green. A farmers’ market will also be set up for visitors to purchase local produce. Scheduled events occur between 1-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and between 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Eight of Connecticut’s leading wineries will offer samples and glasses of award-winning wines for purchase. Featured wineries include: Angelini Wine (Centerbrook), Chamard Vineyards (Clinton), Gouveia Vineyards (Wallingford), Hopkins Vineyard (New Preston), Jonathan Edwards Winery (North Stonington), Priam Vineyards (Colchester), Sharpe Hill Vineyards (Pomfret) and Stonington Vineyards (Stonington).

An especially prepared menu including seafood, grilled fare and a variety of desserts prepared from products of local and regional farms will be available for purchase. Participating farms include: Beaverbrook Farms (lamb, cheeses), Bureau’s Sugarhouse (maple kettle corn), Burnham Farms (corn, tomatoes), Dzen Bros. (blueberries), Four Mile River Farms (Angus beef, eggs), Granny’s Pie Factory (strawberry pie) and Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe (vanilla ice cream).

Visitors can also enjoy light jazz throughout the weekend. The Hot Cat Jazz Band will perform on the Village Green Thursday from 3-7 p.m., and the Andy Wrba Quartet will perform Friday through Sunday from 3-7 p.m.

Additionally, visitors can enter a free raffle for the chance to win a Newport Fall Weekend Getaway Package. One winner will receive an overnight stay at the Viking Hotel in Newport, RI, tours of the Newport mansions and dinner for two at One Bellevue.

Museum admission is required to attend the festival. Admission is half price for those arriving at 5 p.m. or later. Visitors can validate their ticket and return to the festival for a second consecutive day free of charge. Cost of food and wine is additional.
